B's Handyman Services
We provide a variety of home repair and improvement services. Our specialty is helping the aging community with home modifications that create a safer and more comfortable experience in their own living space. We install many safety devices including grab bars, railings, and ramps with the intention to help prevent falls for seniors.
Our mission is to promote elderly independence in their own homes with an emphasis on safety.
Bathroom Safety Installation
Doing an entire bathroom remodel to improve your safety regarding falls can be both expensive and unnecessary. Another option for you is to modify your existing bathroom space to best compliment your needs. We can install tub cut-outs, raised toilet seats, or better lighting to make your bathroom safer and help prevent you from falling.
Tub Cut-Outs
Bathtubs are one of the areas in your home where you are at highest risk for falling. Grab bars and a tub chair are great ways to limit this risk, but if that isn't enough to give you confidence for your safety, then eliminating the need to step over the tub edge is the safest way to enter.
Raised Toilet
Being able to use the toilet is not something to be taken for granted. As we get older, sitting down to relieve ourselves can become quite the challenge. A raised toilet seat may be what you need, or we can replace the whole toilet with a taller one.
Improved Lighting
Being able to see clearly is always important regarding fall prevention. We can replace your bathroom lights to make the bathroom space more visible, or we can install smart lighting/ motion lights, so they turn on automatically when you walk in.
Grab Bars and Railings
Stairs, slippery surfaces, and uneven areas of the floor are common areas where extra safety measures may be needed. We install grab bars and railings where ever you may need an additional place to grab hold of. Having railings on both sides of the stairs is a great way to help prevent falls for seniors.
Bathroom Safety
Stair Safety
Bathrooms are one of the most common areas in a person's house where a fall is likely to occur. Having a grab bar or a railing strategically placed in these rooms can help prevent these falls from occurring. Grab bars inside the shower or around the toilet are excellent areas to improve the safety of that area.
Going up and down stairs is another common area where a person is at risk for falling. Ensuring a rail is placed in the proper location is vital to help reduce this risk. Rail systems may also be need in less-conventional places such as concrete steps in the garage or porch.
Grab bar/ Railing Styles
You or someone you know may need grab bars or railings for their own well-being and safety, but they are hesitant because they may not be aesthetically pleasing. There are many options to choose from that will not deter from the look of your home.
Door Handles and Ramps
Going in and out of doors can quickly become an area of concern for seniors looking to prevent falls. If stepping over a door threshold is no longer a simple task for you, perhaps you need a ramp to make the transition easier. These ramps are very accommodating for anyone who uses a walker or wheelchair as well.
Rubber Threshold Ramps
Do you use a walker or wheelchair when going in and out of your home? Maybe there is a slight elevation change when entering a doorway that your foot always catches on. We can help find you a low profile, durable rubber ramp and customize it to best meet your needs.
Lever Door Handles
Having trouble with your grip? If grabbing and twisting a doorknob has become a challenge for you, then you may want to consider having them changed to a lever-style. This will greatly aid you in opening and closing doors without needing a strong grip.
Preventing Falls
We install a variety of assisting devices to aid in fall prevention and improve general living conditions as people adapt to their homes with increasing age. We work directly with all of our clients and help them determine which modifications would best fulfill their living needs. The CDC reports there are over 14 million falls every year, and it is also the leading cause of injury for people older than 65 years. A lot of our 65 and older population is at a high risk for falls and may not even realize it.
If you or someone you know isn't steady on their feet like they once were, or just simply need a small modification to make their living conditions safer, we can accommodate their needs.
We will do a free home assessment and present options, or we can install devices already purchased. Our goal is to help implement any fall prevention device that works best for our clients.
